We the people for the people.

Barrier Breakers is a seven-day-a-week outreach agency, YES we even help on Saturdays and Sundays. We understand help is still needed after 5 pm on Friday and before 8 am on Monday.

OUR STORY

Barrier Breakers Foundation (BBF) was born from a simple yet powerful idea: everyone deserves a fair shot at rebuilding their lives. Our journey began in 2022, but its roots stretch back to the Breaking Free Club at Skagit Valley College—a student-led initiative founded by formerly incarcerated students determined to support one another.

What started as a safe space for non-traditional students soon became something more. As word spread, community members outside the college began showing up, seeking guidance and access to essential local resources. It was clear, support didn’t just belong in the classroom; it was needed everywhere.

At the same time, Rob Preston, the club’s vice president and a WorkSource intern, saw firsthand the struggles of individuals experiencing homelessness. He realized that securing a job wasn’t enough—true self-sufficiency required access to services beyond traditional work hours, meeting people where they were, on their terms.

And so, Barrier Breakers was created to bridge these gaps, break down barriers, and ensure that no one is left behind in their journey toward stability and independence.

Today, Barrier Breakers continues to expand its impact, driven by the same community-first spirit that started it all. We believe in second chances, in lifting each other up, and in building a future where everyone has the resources they need to thrive.

Our Mission Statement

United We Stand

Barrier Breakers advocates for a future where our unhoused neighbors and those previously incarcerated are given the knowledge, confidence, stability, and pathways to self-sufficiency by breaking down the prejudicial barriers that made it impossible in the past.

Seeking human kindness

From our youth to our seniors, to live in a community without barriers and prejudice of a person's past or current self. To allow them to achieve their goals with the guarantee that no one spends a night without shelter.
